Glo Bible Software

By stephen - Posted on 25 October 2009

Recently my son, Sam, showed me a video trailer of some new Bible software that was about to be released on October 15, 2009 - called Glo Bible. The trailer (see below) looked very impressive.

I contacted 'Inspiration Media' & they sent me a limited pre-release version. First impressions were very good; so good in fact I coughed up my hard earned cash and paid for the full version.

Currently I am still reviewing the full version of Glo Bible software. I intend to make ongoing comments over the next month or so.

WHAT I LIKE SO FAR:

1. The interface that greets you - modern, trendy & practical - you can get where you need to go quickly. The search tool on the interface is a very good idea (it is really efficient too!)

2. As a Bible teacher in a Christian School, this is essential software. I could wear out hardrives every period on this software. Christian schools must check this out. Why? Because ...

3. It has the NIV & KJV, fantastic graphics, virtual tours that you can control, realistic maps with map overlays, Bible helps (Zondarvan) - linked to the Biblical text(s) - linked to multimedia including relevant photos.

4. It has a horizontal style of 'windows'. That is, what you open can be parked in a queue and easily accessed; a bit like iPod touch (eg flicking through photos).

5. Very easy to use.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:

1. It needs a help section.

2. I'm not sure if it's my much maligned Vista operating system but the maps section freezes when it requires some overlays. The maps, at times, can be too unclear.

3. Other versions have to added very soon especially the ESV. The current selection is somewhat limited.

4. The multimedia section is fantastic but it can be tedious searching through it all because of the sheer volume of photos, for example.

VERDICT?

Well worth purchasing ... I did!

Finally, Bibleglo's Australian website is HERE.

JULY 2010 UPDATE:

Hi there folks. Since I wrote the review above, GLO has really come to the party and fixed some glitches, updated the software very smoothly and very well. I am really happy with the program. One gets the distinct impression that they are committed to their product and proud to make it get even better.

It's not theologically exhaustive but it has enough coverage for the price, to be very useful.

I recently used it as a sermon preparation resource and was impressed anew at how modern and trendy it looks. (Those of you who use other Bible software will know exactly what I mean!)

It's really good software I use as a companion with other Bible software. Buy it!

LATEST FEEDBACK FROM A READER

G'day all, I purchased a copy of Glo Bible software back in 12/12/2009. I used it only on my laptop as it ran faster than my older style tower pc. After doing some maintenance on my laptop, I started to re-install my usual software that I use, examples being MS Office 2007, Adobe Master Collection CS4, and numerous other software that I use as I am currently doing a Cert IV in IT at the local TAFE College here in Ballarat, Victoria. Australia. After getting to re-install Glo for a fourth time because some other non related issues, it LOCKED ME OUT!!! I sent BibleGlo.com an email which inturn they UNLOCKED it so I was able to re-install again. All this was at the start of 2010 in March of that year. In that last several days I upgraded my laptop to Win7 Pro and was in the process of again re-installing Glo but was AGAIN LOCKED OUT of installing the software. I then AGAIN emailed BibleGlo.com to this issue, but because of the time frame difference between Ballarat, Victoria and Orlando, Florida which is 18 to 20 hours difference, allowing for Daylight savings time I was able to have a 'Chat Session' with someone from BibleGlo.com but he informed me that he was not in his office so I now have to wait till his next day of him being in the office. This time frame has been 3 to 4 days waiting to have this issued resolved. If I have to email them each time I get to re-installing MY OWN SOFTWARE that I've purchased myself I will be considering asking for my money back. This is NOT good enough when I pay for software that I use for my own studies. I'm not making illegal copies or doing anything illegal here. I shouldn't have to ask for my account or the software to be UNLOCKED after three previous installs, especially when the time factor is approx' 19 hours behind Ballarat, Victoria's time. I'm NOT happy having this type of lock on this software. If I'd known about this before I purchased Glo, I may have chosen other software that is available.
