Shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic

The world view of the modern atheist is like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Each arrangement of chairs gives them meaning in life and a new code of behaviour.

Their world view however, has no foundation. It is a disaster.

Modern atheists like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens believe that God is non-existent and that modern Science holds the answers to most of life.

The atheistic view of the origin of life is that the first replicating cell spontaneously resulted through a series of random chemical reactions.

Then, through random chemical mutations and random environmental changes natural selection had a chance to act. To cut a long story short, over billions of years we evolved to our present day form.

Human life is the end result of a series of random, meaningless, naturalistic processes.

At death, the atheist believes that man returns to dust and ceases to exist. There is no afterlife or as Hitchens puts it, "no theme park - one good and one bad".

The universe is also dying. As it gets older it is losing energy in the form of heat. As time goes on the universe is becoming more and more disordered and chaotic. The end result is just a dark, cold, lifeless world.

Life according to the atheist originated randomly. It had no purpose, no meaning and no morality. Life also ends randomly. We return to dust. We become a collection of chemicals with no purpose, no meaning and no morality.

However, between these two states of matter we have a conscious lfe. The modern atheist  believes that there is suddenly meaning and purpose in life. They also believe that there is a moral code of behaviour which we should abide by.

Their world view, however, has no foundation. It is like a small boy who is trying to lift himself into the air by pulling his shoe laces.

The objective world view of the atheist is that we originated from non-living material and that in the end we will end up the same way.

The subjective world view of the atheist, however, is in stark contrast to the objective reality of doom and gloom. They try to make up some sort of meaning, purpose and moral code of ethics while alive and living between these two states of nothingness. All they are doing however, is shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. Their subjective world view is to play 'make believe' while the Titanic is sinking. They also ‘piggy back’ on the morality of the religions they so vehemently denounce. For their objective world view has no philosophical basis for the existence of any code of ethics, yet they claim to be morally superior.

On the other hand, the Christian faith is grounded on the historical evidence of the resurrection of Jesus. There is life after death. There is also meaning and purpose in life. As the Westminster Confession so aptly puts it, “the chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever”. Christians also seek to become like Jesus in their behaviour. Their morality flows from a living relationship with God in response to His gracious act of salvation.

Below is a video clip of Willian Craig Lane (Christian) and  Christopher Hitchens (atheist) exchanging viewpoints on the purpose of life.
